With Amy Wright, Brand & Marketing Manager

Amy took us on a lively ride through her nonlinear career journey, perfectly captured by her nod to Ronan Keating’s “Life is a rollercoaster.”

From corporate roles at Carter Holt Harvey and Taura Natural Ingredients, to work within government agencies like NZTE and Wellington City Council, to a stint overseas, Amy’s path has been anything but straight. Today, she’s helping steer Bobux, the New Zealand children’s footwear brand known for podiatrist approved, health-first shoes.

In an energetic and refreshingly honest session, Amy shared the key lessons she’s gained along the way, wrapped into five standout takeaways:

1. Creativity is your biggest value driver.
With small teams and tight budgets at Bobux, creativity wasn’t optional—it was essential. Amy highlighted clever social content approaches, including influencer styled photo campaigns and global user generated videos that boosted engagement and contributed to one of their top selling shoes.

2. Know your ‘why.’
Marketers can be so focused on articulating someone else’s purpose that they forget their own. Amy encouraged aligning personal values with professional choices whenever possible.

3. Don’t let fear make your decisions.
From relocating cities to accepting a job with a German competitor, Amy reminded us that fear is constant—but shouldn’t be the driver. Her time overseas, though challenging, became one of her most valuable growth periods.

4. Build and nurture your networks.
Connections—like the one she forged with NZTE—can unexpectedly shape future roles and opportunities. She also recommended the New Zealand Story as a powerful resource for international brand positioning.

5. When in doubt, return to the four P's.
Ground yourself in the fundamentals, especially during turbulence. For Amy, this mantra helped her reset after redundancy and ultimately led her to meaningful work at Bobux.

The takeaway? Embrace the twists. The rollercoaster is where the growth happens.
